What I Love About Me Blog Hop

Welcome to Week 4 of "What I Love About Me!" hosted by Twins Plus One, Three Times the Fun and Twingle Mommy!
Here's how it works -
Write a post about what you love about yourself this week and then add it to the linky list below. This is intended to be a time and place for each of us to stop criticizing ourselves for a few minutes and actually remind ourselves of the characteristics we are proud to own. So go ahead, look in the mirror, and see yourself through your loved one's eyes. Notice the beauty first. Here's your place to shine!

A few simple guidelines -
  • Please follow the two hostesses. If you are a new follower, please comment so we can follow you too! :)
  • We'd love it if you posted the button and the linky list, but it is not mandatory.
  • Feel free to link to your homepage or your specific "What I Love About Me!" post. We want this to be a fun, relaxing hop so we'll accept all links as long as they are family-friendly. Thanks!
  • The linky will be open all week so feel free to link-up on your own time!

So what in the world  does Kenny Roger's The Gambler have to do with what I'm loving about me this week? Well it's all about these two lines....
  1. "You've got to know when to hold, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to run."
  2. "Now every gambler knows the secret to surviving is knowing what to throw away and what to keep"
Those two lines apply to my life in the people that I have chosen to keep in my life. Lets face it, there are some people that you have to let go of. The relationship might be abusive or it just may have run it's course. I think there are so many people that hang on to unhealthy relationships because they think they need to and to let go of the relationship would be failure.

So this week, I got a reminder about why I have chosen to only have positive relationships in my life. As a mother I do not want emotionally abusive people around my kids. Which means they cannot be in my life either. And while it was sad at first, I have made my peace with it. I would much rather have people in my life who love me for me instead of loving me when they have decided that I've done something to deserve their love.

  1. I love Kenny Rogers and this song. Once again I have linked up with you and Holly.

  2. Hugs to you, Allison. I know that is hard.

  3. I hear ya...loud and clear! I strongly believe that the type of energy we surround ourselves with (negative or positive) determines the type of energy we live our lives with.

  4. Thank you for linking up to my Blog Hop... I love yours.. thank you for this post.. You have no idea how it has touched me... Kenny words "You've got to know when to hold, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to run."
    Thank you, good reminder!
Maybe I get a post done to link on here... have a wonderful day! ~

  5. I love the connection you made between this classic song and a classic truth about life! I wish I had learned this lesson when I was younger--would have saved me a lot of heartache!

  6. Boy does that song take me back to childhood. I LOVED Kenny Rogers when I was a kid. What a great trip down memory lane.

I also love the sentiment in your post today. I recently told my Allison that I want to make sure we are saying positive things around our son.

He's only 5 months old, but I don't want us getting into the habit of complaining to each other about work, family frustrations etc around him. I want him to get used to hearing us talk about positive things because I know that eventually our tone and outlook will have a big impact on his.

Thanks for the reminder to keep things positive!

Now I'm off to listen to some more Kenny Rogers on YouTube!

  7. I love Kenny Rogers. My favorite is when he and Dolly Parton sing "Islands in the Stream". Stopping by from the Helicopter's Mom Alexa hop. Have a good day!

  8. I’m visiting and following you from the Alexa Blog Hop! Come over for a visit!

  9. I second Holly by saying hugs to you!! You and your family are going through alot of change and you have proven what a strong person you are. There is no need to pacify any stressful relationships!
