Silly Mommy, You Should Have Known Better!

Do you remember the line silly rabbit, Trix are for kids? Well today it's modified to silly mommy, you should have known better. What's the saying again? The path to hell is paved in good intentions.

Well today I had good intentions.

At 10am or as it's known in our house, snack time, it was a beautiful 88 degrees instead of the normal 100 degrees. So I thought it would be fun to go outside and have our snack and then play bubbles. Now doesn't that sound like fun?

Here is where it all started to go wrong. My backyard faces South and we don't have a patio cover. So going in the backyard is very hot and sunny all day long. But, my front porch has a little cover on it and a porch swing so we headed to the front yard. This is something that I've done before with good results, today was not one of those days.

Mistake #1 - I didn't have everything ready before I told the kiddos to put their shoes on. So before we even started, I had three kids crying at the front door while I gathered cups of water, peaches, crackers, and hats. It's never good when you start off on the wrong foot.

Mistake #2 - I didn't make them stay on the porch. My kids are really good about staying on the sidewalk, so I don't worry about them going into the street. So it's no big deal to me when they go on the driveway and sidewalk. Going on the sidewalk lead to this moment.
Now it's a little hard to tell, but Mark is behind my neighbor's yellow truck. Yep my little happy wanderer is taking off down the street. In the beginning he came back every time I called him, but then he decided not to listen to me anymore.

Here they are listening

Mistake #3 - I forgot that I was in public and yelled at my kids to get their diaper butts back on the porch. (Yep I actually yelled diaper butts in the front yard) We all got to the front door and I asked them to come inside and take off their shoes. And what do my little M&Ms do? Oh that's right they took off for the driveway again.

Mistake #4 - I forgot that I was outside again and ran after my twins grabbed scooped them up, one in each arm and went inside. I wonder what the neighbors thought of that move???? It wouldn't have been so bad except Mark started screaming at the top of his lungs. Thanks kid, I'll get you back when you're a teenager.

Mistake #5 - I left the bubbles in reach of a three year old while wrestling bringing two 1 year olds inside. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB, DUMB, DUMB! I'm sure you can picture the bubble mess all over my pool table and freshly mopped floors.

So what is a mom to do?
Well she calmly puts them in timeout and than explains why their behavior is unacceptable. Then they say that they're sorry and all is forgiven. Mom learns her lesson and next time goes into the backyard.

So what did this mom do?
Well she screamed at them. Put them in timeout. Took pictures since the camera was in her hand. Yelled at them again and sent them to play in Isabella and Molly's room. Then she made lunch early and put everyone down for an early nap.

Look how pathetic they look.

I feel a little bad, but I'm enjoying the quiet too much to beat myself up about it.

  1. Sounds like a typical day in our house! (I'm kidding...mostly) I'm glad you can enjoy your quiet time. :)

  2. Oh, I think as mom's we've all been there! I know I have more than once with my girls. The good thing is that there is always tomorrow to try again!
