What I Love About Me-Blog Hop

"The wise know the value of friendship, and that it is wisdom to be a friend to oneself too." -A.C. Grayling
Welcome to Week 11 of "What I Love About Me!" hosted by Twins Plus One, Three Times the Fun and Twingle Mommy!

Here's how it works -
Write a post about what you love about yourself this week and then add it to the linky list below. This is intended to be a time and place for each of us to stop criticizing ourselves for a few minutes and actually remind ourselves of the characteristics we are proud to own. So go ahead, look in the mirror, and see yourself through your loved one's eyes. Notice the beauty first. Here's your place to shine!

A few simple guidelines -
  • Please follow the two hostesses. If you are a new follower, please comment so we can follow you too! :)
  • We'd love it if you posted the button and the linky list, but it is not mandatory. The button code is on my left sidebar.
  • Feel free to link to your homepage or your specific "What I Love About Me!" post. We want this to be a fun, relaxing hop so we'll accept all links as long as they are family-friendly. Thanks!
  • The linky will be open all week so feel free to link-up on your own time!

I love that I decided to start blogging last Winter. There are so many reasons why, but one of the best aspects of blogging is that I've "met" other bloggy moms that have kids with CP. When Mark was diagnosed last July, we were in desperate need to know other parents that were going through what we were going through. Only there is no support group for CP in Las Vegas. So when I started blogging, I stumbled upon a mom who has a son with CP. I loved reading her blog and began stalking her. (See I can admit it)

Today she posted a song that I want to share with all of you. (Don't worry, I told her that I was stealing sharing her posted song first.)  This song touch me in ways that I cannot describe. I really hope you'll take the time to listen to the words.

The Life That's Chosen Me (written by Karen Taylor-Good and Lisa Aschmann)

We had such expectations, we would soon be giving birth
To the next Chopin, the next Einstein, the greatest child on earth
And we'd be the perfect family, soon we'd have the perfect kid
We'd never have a challenge or a problem, God forbid

Oh but Life had different plans, so I need for you to understand

Don't desert me, don't ignore
I need friends now more than I ever did before
Show compassion but please don't pity me
I'm a parent just like you, it's true
But I have special needs

I need you to notice that my life's different from yours
I need you not to judge me, don't condemn and don't keep score
I'd love an extra pair of hands, or just a hug or two
I need you to acknowledge that I carry more than you

Got the world here on my back, so I just thought I would ask

Don't desert me, don't ignore
I need friends now more than I ever did before
What you take for granted comes so hard for me
I'm a parent just like you, it's true
But I have special needs

I need answers, I need help, it's so much work
And a miracle or two sure wouldn't hurt

Don't desert me, don't ignore
I need friends now more than I ever did before
It's not the life that I'd have chosen, but it's the life that's chosen me
I'm a parent just like you, it's true
But I have special needs

I need you to listen, I need you to care
I need your understanding, I need you just to be there
I need your friendship, maybe a hug or two
Oh God I need a miracle.........

The part that gets me is
I need you to notice that my life's different from yours
I need you not to judge me, don't condemn and don't keep score

So thank you Cary, at About the Small Stuff one of the CP mommy bloggers that I have in my support system for sharing this song with me. It really expresses how I feel sometimes.

What do you love about yourself this week?

  1. Wow, Allison. That song is so beautiful. Know that I will always be here if you need that hug. I think you are such a strong mom. Isabella, Mark, and Molly are very lucky to have you as their momma.
