EZ Strawberry Dessert with COOL WHIP

Do you have a recipe or a food that reminds you of someone or your childhood? For me, COOL WHIP Whipped Topping is a food that reminds me of my grandma. She always had COOL WHIP Whipped Topping on hand for desserts and strawberries. And of course being a child that lived through the depression, she kept the tubs to use as Tupperware. And while it's not something that I would do or recommend, I laugh when I think of my grandma reusing her COOL WHIP Whipped Topping containers to store leftovers in.

Now that I'm a mom and I have events that I need to bring desserts to, I've discovered why my grandma always had COOL WHIP Whipped Topping in the house. It can make any store bought dessert better and it gives it that "homemade" touch. Plus, my kids love to dip fresh fruit into COOL WHIP Whipped Topping for dessert. Talk about a quick and easy dessert that is perfect for the hot summer months. I'm so busy with three kids under the age of five that making desserts that are not quick and easy are not very high on my to do list. That's why I need something as simple as slicing fruit and adding a spoonful of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping.

There is one dessert that would not be the same without COOL WHIP Whipped Topping . I have no idea where this recipe originated; it could be a Kraft recipe for all I know. But it was my favorite summer dessert and my grandma made it especially for me. It is an easy and delicious dessert that requires no baking so it's perfect for the hot summer months. I make it for my kids now and it always brings back memories of my grandma.

EZ Strawberry Dessert

Ingredients

16 oz frozen strawberries (I've used fresh and I prefer frozen)
1 3 oz pkg strawberry Jell-O
1 1/3 cup water
1 cup COOL WHIP Whipped Topping plus extra for the top
6 sheets of gram crackers
4 T melted butter

Directions

1. Melt butter.
2. Combine butter and gram crackers in a food processor to make the pie crust.
3. Press mixture into a pie plate or a 9X9 pan.
4. Bring water to a boil in a med sauce pan
5. Meanwhile-slice strawberries
6. Once the water is boiling, dissolve the Jell-O into the water. After the Jell-O dissolves, add the strawberries and stir.
7. Remove from heat
8. Fold in one cup of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping  and pour into the crust.
9. Chill for 4 hours or overnight and serve with a big dollop of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping on top.

I hope you will make this dessert for your family soon and like it as much as I do. I'm sure you could use other fruit and Jell-O flavors in place of the strawberries. But I've never tried to switch it up since I love it so much. Why fix what isn't broken right?

  1. Sounds yummy! My Grandma reused containers for left overs too! She also washed plastic silverware, cups, and plates.
