Confessions on Sick Kids

Photobucket
I confess....
I almost never take my kids to the doctor when they're sick. I normally wait until they've been sick for a few and then I take them.

WHY?

I confess....
Because NOTHING annoys me more than paying a $35 co-pay per kid to hear it's a virus, they need rest and fluids.

I confess....
In the four+ years of having kids, only Molly has ever been given a prescription. It was when she was in the hospital for the stomach flu and they gave her Zofran to stop the vomiting.

I confess....
So I wait a few days and make sure it doesn't go away on it's own.

I confess....
Mark started running a fever on Tuesday and it was high. (102-104) He didn't have any other symptoms so I thought the Bonar household might have their first ear infection. I took him to the doctor on Wednesday because.........

I confess....
My mom is taking the kids for the weekend so Brett and I can have a break. And I needed to get Mark well before the Friday so he didn't ruin my weekend could feel better. To the doctor we went!

Want to guess what the doctor said?

I confess....
Is there anything more annoying that this? "This virus is a real tough one. We can't figure it out. Every night we have a few kids check into the ER with high fevers and no other symptoms. Rest and fluids and bring him back on Monday if his fever doesn't go away."

I confess....
I wanted my co-pay back.

I confess....
Isabella woke up at 4am on Thursday and threw up for three hours. Molly woke up with her. It was a LONG day.

I confess....
By Thursday morning I had three kids with high fevers and I felt very sorry for myself. Oh no I mean the kids.

No I don't, I mean me!

I confess....
I tried to write a review post yesterday, but I couldn't string three words together. I took a nap instead.

I confess....
Isabella has a low grade fever that broke this morning so I'm planning on taking them to my mom's house. Just as long as there is no fever this afternoon this evil no name illness will not ruin my plans.

I confess....
I'm really looking forward to this weekend alone with Brett.

What are you confessing this week?

  2. I hope they are all feeling better and that you get some relief! I don't blame you about taking kids to the doctor right away. I don't take mine right away either. I took my oldest to the doctor this week because he had some weird rash that was like stripes on either side him. I was told it was a virus and there was nothing I could do . . . Um, yeah I want my $25 bucks back too!

I hope you two have a nice weekend together! I'm so jealous!

  4. I love how you felt sorry for yourself! I can so relate!

We are on week FOUR of sickness with our girls, and I have just about had it!

It's funny what you said about not wanting to do the copay, just to hear that it's a virus! I literally just said that to the pediatrician a few days ago! But I'm a sucker and am always worried about ear infections and the like, thus am poor from paying copays...

Let's see... one had a high fever for a few days and then was fine. The other one had 104 degree fever off and on for like 4 days. They thought it was Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. Finally, she got better. Not a ding dong thing they could do for her! Then the other one had a fever for a day (two year molars?), and now they BOTH have some sinus, hacking-coughing, runny-eyes, snotty noses, I wanna hang all over mommy and cry if the wind blows the wrong way, gunk.

At this rate, I hope they will not have a single sniffly nose once they get to Kindergarten because they will have been already exposed to everything! Haha! I know... wishful thinking.
