What Matters Most by Leonard Sweet asks the question - what is the base of your faith in God? In the beginning of the book Sweet asks what is the biggest problem in the world and the answer is disconnection. We are disconnected from God, people, and our families. And in a world with so many digital connections it seems strange that we are lacking in personal relationships and yet we are.
Sweet talks about how we need to fix our relationships in order to fix the world. But in order to do that, we first need to fix our relationship with God. It's not enough to know memorize the stories in the Bible. We need to really read them and put ourselves in the stories to truly get the impact. Throughout the book, Sweet references the story of Abraham and Issac. He looks at their story in ways that I've never thought about before.
What Matters Most is a book that will make you think about the depth of your faith. It is not an easy read though since the chapters don't flow easily. But the theme throughout the book is that you cannot just believe in God, you need a relationship with God. And that Jesus did not ask us to follow a set of rules and regulations, but to follow him.
