Ode to Mom Jeans

I have a pair of mom jeans and I wear them proudly! Not to dinner with my family of course but around the house and maybe to drop off Belly at preschool. Maybe.

Mom jeans get such a bad rap and for a good reason. They are worse than yoga or sweat pants if you ask most people. But I love my mom jeans and I hate yoga and sweat pants-aka glorified jammies. Why is it OK to wear sweat pants everywhere you go while mom jeans are a cardinal sin? My mom jeans are stretchy, soft, and comfy what is not to love about my mom jeans?

Ohhhhhh it's because they are ugly. Not just ugly, U-G-L-Y you ain't got no alibi you ugly hey, hey you ugly!

Don't you wish you could own a pair of these? They really are the ugliest jeans I own. And the worst part is that I once thought these jeans were great 8 years ago when I bought them. Of course back then they were dark wash jeans and they fit snugly. About 10,000 washings have changed the shade of jeans to the appropriate mom jean color. Also the washings have made them lose their shape and stretch out to the perfect comfort level.

You can't buy jeans that have those cute little material folds around the butt off the rack. They must be earned my friend! And of course after being worn and washed for 8 years they have cute little holes in the corner.

The little flaps over the back jean pockets no longer stay down on their own. I'm sure I could iron my jeans if I jumped to an alternate universe where I own an ironing board and had a desire to iron. I don't see that ever happening in this universe. And really, it's unrealistic to expect me to iron in any universe.

Now if you are not sold on how horrible there jeans are yet I would like to direct your attention to the nail polish and bleach stain on my left leg. I got the bleach stain in some mysterious way that appeared one day after I did the laundry. The nail polish stain was from painting Molly's toenails. See mom jean status is official now!

By now I'm sure I've sold you on how awful these jeans truly are in real life. I'm not sure the pictures do them justice especially since I was taking them standing on my bathroom counter. Now why do I wear my mom jeans with so much pride?

That's easy, because they still fit. Eight years and three kids later these bad girls still fit. And there is a very large vain part of me that will not throw them out since I get a sick sense of satisfaction every time I pull them on. And they really are that comfortable, like jean sweat pants. For me, these jeans are like fashion comfort food. So you can make fun of my jeans, I can take it. And deep down you know you own a piece of fashion comfort food yourself. Maybe you hang on to it because it still fits, like my jeans. Or perhaps it reminds you of something or someone so you hold onto it. But we all have something that needs to go to the trash because giving it to Goodwill would be an insult to the needy.

So what is your fashion comfort food?

    1. I think you can't get the sacred mom jeans until you own a pair yoursef.

  2. I love my mom jeans. Yoga pants enhance the bumps and bulges---ewww. Sweatpants are too hot most of the time. New jeans are built for riding so low they are just not comfortable for actually moving around. *sigh* I do love my mom jeans.

    1. I totally agree about the unforgiving nature of yoga pants. They not only show every flaw, but they seem to highlight them as well.

  3. I have a pair of jeans from pre-kids that still fit- and I wear them sometimes even though they have really awful holes in the knees!

    1. It's really good to know that I'm not the only one who kept a pair of pre-kid jeans.

  4. Comfy clothes are hard to come by. And as a mom, who has time (or money) to buy new jeans all the time? :) I have a few pair of favs from before the kids were born; they don't have little rips around the pockets, yet, but I'm sure they are on the way!

Thanks for stopping in on my SITS day!

  5. I'm impressed that you were able to take such good pictures of your rear in the mirror! Don't think I've seen such talent in all my years. Way to go ;)
