Thanks for Kicking me While I'm Down

It's not even 1:30 and I'm ready to go to bed and start all over again tomorrow. Have you ever had one of those days? Where it starts off bad and only seems to get worse from there. And I'm going to be really honest, it's days like today that I truly don't feel like I get enough credit for not beating my kids. I'm sure the fact that I only got 2 hours of sleep last night didn't play into this bad day at all.

What you are looking at here is a full box of Cheez-Its and a whole loaf of bread all over my daughters' room. Why? Well I had the audacity of going to the bathroom and changing out of my pjs and into jeans and that was too long for my daughters to wait for food. Apparently they wanted to go on a picnic and eat cracker sandwiches. When I found them they were throwing crackers in the air saying "crackers for everyone!" Awesome!

I was so annoyed with them but I was also beyond tired. I took the picture, because I'm a freak and I always take pictures of them misbehaving. I have this idea floating around in my head that I'll make my kids a book filled with all the pictures of them being naughty. That way when they have kids, they'll know exactly where their kids' behavior comes from.

After I took the picture, I went and got Mark out of his crib and brought him into their room and announced "eat up kids, this is breakfast." Perhaps not my finest parenting moment but it's not my worst parenting moment either. This little picnic threw my whole morning off and somehow I forgot to make Isabella's lunch. Something I realized when we were walking out the door. I threw a yogurt, cheese stick, and an orange in her lunch pail and called it good enough.

Mark was very excited to get on the bus today he tried to climb on before the bus stopped. No more crying tantrums getting on the bus, so at least one thing went well today. I dropped Belly off at preschool and then Molly and I headed to the gym. I was going to swim half a mile and then take Aqua Zumba. Can you hear the universe laughing yet?  Five minutes into my swim childcare came and got me and said that Molly had pooped her pants. FANTASTIC! I do not have extra clothes for her so we'll have to leave. Note to self-put a change of clothes for everyone in the car. You're not a rookie mom, you know better than this!

I took the world's fastest shower and threw on clothes and went to get her. And guess what? She didn't poop her pants, she farted! Are you freaking kidding me? You didn't even check? I was so unbelievably pissed off. And now my towel was soaking wet since I dropped it while I was rushing around and there was no way I was going to take Aqua Zumba now that my towel was soaking wet.

So thank you universe for kicking me when I was already down. I guess I wasn't kicked hard enough since I left this blog post to check on Molls after that sentence. She got out of bed a few minutes ago to go potty. But she decided to paint her nails, the counters, and the floor instead of going potty. Seriously, how do my kids get into so much trouble in such a small window of time? And I know that we are not supposed to compare kids, but it really seems like mine are the only kids who are constantly getting into things.

As soon as my husband gets home I'm going to Home Depot to buy a lock for the pantry. I'm done trying to discipline them into being good and not getting into the pantry. It's just not worth it anymore, I'm locking those little stinkers out!

Now if you would like to make me feel better about parenting, you can tell me about the worst mess your kids ever made. Even though sadly, this is not the worst mess they have made.

  1. OMG!!!! You deserve HUGE kuddoo's for not killing anyone!! I shouldn't share how hard I'm laughing. AND I'm SO THANKING the heavens that my kids are grown!! I'll have a glass of wine for you.
    Lucky KIDS!!! LUCKY!!!
    Thank you for sharing!!

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed the laugh. It's kinda funny now that I'm a few days removed. And I did buy that lock, it'a amazing how much easier my life is now that they cannot get into the pantry. I shouldn't have fought it all these years.

  2. Oh, my! So, I totally don't want to laugh because OMG THOSE KIND OF DAYS DRIVE ME CRAZY,!

    Here's hoping tomorrow's a better day.

    1. Thankfully days like this one don't come along very ofter or else I would go crazy.

  3. The idea of a bad behavior photo memory book is SUCH a great idea- can you make two? My kids probably did some of the same stuff but I wasn't clever enough to take photos when they were littles!!
Also, totally impressed that you even managed to know what time the zumba class was offered and make it to the gym with the intention of participating. That totally counts as exercise for the day!

    1. Hey it's never too late to start your book! I'm famous for saying "well the first thing I did was take a picture, and then I disciplined them." The pictures are pretty funny to look back at now, I can only imagine in 20 years how funny they will be.
