My Love/Hate Relationship with Valentine's Day

I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine's Day. I'm not a hater after all I've never attended an Anti-Valentine's Day party or wear black in protest of the holiday, but I'm not a fan either. I think my lack of enthusiasm stems from the fact that it's also my mom's birthday. I don't really remember Valentine's Day being a big deal in my house, since we were really celebrating my mom.

What I love about the holiday

I love that my husband and I (cough it's all me) cook lobsters for dinner. It's the one time of year we spring for lobsters and it is so good! I love lobster and having a great dinner in my quiet home is a wonderful way to spend the night with my husband.

I love making my kids special food like heart shaped pancakes and sandwiches.

I love watching Brett squirm when he asks every year if I really didn't get anything for him. It's mean I know, but I enjoy seeing him stress on the 13th when he wonders if I broke the rules and bought him something.

I love hearing my kids call their Nana and sing Happy Birthday to her. They are so freaking cute when they sing.

But here is what I hate

I hate hearing women complain about what their husband/boyfriend other didn't do for them. "Can you believe he didn't give me flowers? I mean really how hard is it to have flowers delivered?" I just find it annoying and ungrateful.

Speaking of flowers, do you really need to post a picture on Facebook of the flowers you did get? No one cares. Now it's not as obnoxious as posting a picture of your kid's poop, but it's still in the top 10.

I hate chocolate. Where is the sour gummy worm heart box? I've been waiting all my life for the sour gummy worn heart box to appear on the market. Sigh, maybe next year.

I hate seeing how sad some of my single friends get today. I totally get why, this is not a happy day if you're not in a relationship.

I do love how sweet Brett gets on Valentine's Day and that puts me more in the love category than the hate category.

How do you feel about Valentine's Day?
