The Firemen Saved Our Memorial Day Fun

I hope everyone had a fun Memorial Day weekend. We had a nice relaxing weekend outside, the weather in Raleigh was picture perfect! And I got to go shopping without my kids this weekend. Not to the grocery store, but to the mall to buy new clothes. For me, not the kids! Oh man I was feeling on top of the world. Do you know how often I get to shop for anything without kids? I'm pretty sure the Earth orbits the sun with more frequency than my shopping alone.

We had one little hiccup on Monday when we attempted to attend a parade. When we went to the address that the newspaper printed it was a retirement apartment complex. The kids were in tears and very upset about us not being able to find the parade. We decided to go downtown since it made sense that a parade would be downtown. We passed a fire station and Brett went in to see if they knew where we could find the parade. Turns out, we weren't the first people to ask and they had the same address we did.

Where is the parade mom?

Now the kids were really upset. I knew that we were going to have an uphill battle making the kids happy again. I didn't know they would be that disappointed over missing a parade. And that is when the firemen saved the day for us. They invited the kids to come in and see all the trucks and boats!

The girls dove right into the fun!

Mark wanted nothing to do with the fire station at first.

Mark loved being the driver!

I cannot express my gratitude to the wonderful fire men in Apex, NC enough! They were so generous with their time and they turned the kids moods right around. And today when my girls were playing they were pretending to be firemen who were rescuing their toys. Gotta love that imagination!

Have you ever taken your kids to visit a fire station? How did your visit go?

  1. I know where that is! You're only about an hour and a half from me. I'm glad the firefighters saved the day for the kids. Most fire stations are really good about doing things for the kids, even spur of the moment.

  2. How wonderful that they were on board to letting the kids enjoy their memorial day there!
